Reconciliation Program

Victims of crime often feel left out of the criminal
justice process:
VORP invites you, the victim, to be involved in decisions
affecting you and your property. No victim is ever required to
participate -- the choice is yours.
With the assistance of a specially trained volunteer
mediator, you will meet with the offender to discuss the crime,
express your feelings, and decide what needs to be done to help
restore your loss. It is also an opportunity to obtain answers
to your questions.
This meeting is held at a convenient time for you,
frequently in the early evening or on the weekend.
An agreement reached by you and the offender will
be put into written form. VORP monitors the progress of the agreement.
This information is then reported to the court. VORP agreements
have an extremely high rate of fulfillment, above 95%.
VORP is a community program begun in 1986 and operated
by the Anderson County Community Mediation Services. It
is not a part of either the court system or the probation department.
Funding is provided by individuals, businesses, churches, private
foundations, United Way, and state and county governments. VORP
is a response by the community to help provide a justice process
which restores both property and people.
Our staff or our volunteer mediator will more fully
explain our program and answer your questions so that you can
make an informed decision about participating. You may also at
any time call us with your concerns.
