Attendance Mediation

Nationally 7.5 million students miss 10% of the school year .  Although this  national statistic are staggering,   truancy is an issue that can be addressed at the community level. Community Mediation Services is partnering with the Anderson County Schools in an effort to improve attendance and combat truancy in Anderson County Middle Schools. With a grant made possible by the East Tennessee Foundation , CMS has created an attendance mediation model that includes counselors, parents and student who will talk together to determine what the barriers to education are and how to combat them together.  Each family has different issues and there will  be different solutions  determined in the mediation process.  This team approach seeks to address beyond the classroom reasons for absenteeism and strengthen families as they work through the issues.
