Basic Training
The training for all 4 CMS mediation programs begins with basic conflict resolution techniques and listening skills. The basic training is 8-12 hours and involves classroom teaching, discussion and role play. After Basic you may choose which program you are most interested in and participate in program specific training. Many volunteers chose training in more than one concentration.
Program specific training involves additional classroom teaching and discussion but the majority of this training will be role play. It will allow trainees to practice their new skills. Each participant will receive a program notebook along with classroom handouts. The training will take 12-16 hours.
Once program specific training is complete, the trainee will mediate with a trained mediators in our apprentice program until both the trainee and the mediator feel they are ready to mediate.
TPM and Visitation Mediation involve two mediators. VORP and AMP ( truancy) are a single mediator model.
Trainees will be asked to make a one year commitment to mediate for CMS. This usually involves a minimum of 4 -6 hours a month. We do require a completed application, background check and 3 references.
